Red Winged Blackbird

Red Winged Blackbird Call

Recorded at Folly Beach, SC - April, 2008.

When Homer and I visited Folly Beach, SC in April of 2008, we were amazed at the number of Red Winged Blackbirds that gathered around the marsh next to our house.  Their scratchy, almost metallic calls surrounded us each morning as we walked to the beach.

This blackbird can be very aggressive and will attack other birds such as crows, hawks, osprey and herons that approach their territory.  Humans can also be attacked if they venture too close!  Red Winged Blackbirds can gather into flocks sometimes numbering in the millions.
